4 Tips For Not Regreting Your 4th of July

As we celebrate 4th of July today I'd thought I'd share my 4 simple tips to keep your health on track during the holiday. 


I know you've heard this a million times, but I can't emphasize enough how important it is to hydrate. Especially in the summer heat! You are loosing a lot of fluids just to stay cool. So drink plenty of water. Want some flavor? Try adding fresh mint and cucumber slices to your water bottle. 


Staying active is a great way not to over eat but also burns calories. Grab a frisbee and start a game in the backyard, take a dip in the pool, or even go for a 20 minute walk after you eat.  Just make sure are making time to get your body moving. 


Fill up on the healthiest stuff first. Salads are a great place to start because watery vegetables slow digestion and have very few calories. Grilled vegetables, baby carrots, celery sticks, and fresh fruit are all healthy choices. By filling up on the high fiber fruits and veggies you are more likely to skip the chips (unless of course they are kale chips).  

4. Eat slowly and mindfully

So often we eat mindlessly and are not aware of what or how much we are eating. This holiday try to slow it down and focus on the pleasure of eating and fully experiencing all of the elements of food.  And reap the benefits - people who eat more slowly actually eat fewer calories over the course of a meal. BBQs are a perfect opportunity to pace yourself as you mix and mingle with friends and family.
